TYPES OF FABRICS

Fabrics can be broadly classified into natural fabrics, synthetic fabrics, and blended fabrics.

  1. Natural Fabrics:

Natural fabrics are made from fibers that occur naturally in nature. Some examples of natural fabrics are:

  • Cotton: Cotton is a soft and comfortable fabric that is breathable and absorbs moisture. It is used to make a wide range of clothing items such as t-shirts, dresses, and jeans.

  • Silk: Silk is a luxurious and smooth fabric that is made from the cocoon of the silkworm. It is used to make high-end clothing items such as evening gowns and suits.

  • Wool: Wool is a warm and durable fabric that is made from the fleece of sheep or other animals. It is used to make clothing items such as sweaters, scarves, and coats.

  • Linen: Linen is a lightweight and breathable fabric that is made from the fibers of the flax plant. It is used to make clothing items such as suits and dresses.

  1. Synthetic Fabrics:

Synthetic fabrics are man-made and are produced by chemical processes. Some examples of synthetic fabrics are:

  • Polyester: Polyester is a synthetic fabric that is durable, lightweight, and easy to care for. It is used to make clothing items such as t-shirts, jackets, and sportswear.

  • Nylon: Nylon is a synthetic fabric that is strong, lightweight, and elastic. It is used to make clothing items such as hosiery, swimwear, and athletic wear.

  • Rayon: Rayon is a synthetic fabric that is soft, breathable, and has a similar texture to natural fabrics such as cotton and silk. It is used to make clothing items such as blouses, dresses, and suits.

  • Spandex: Spandex is a synthetic fabric that is elastic and can stretch up to 500% of its original size. It is used to make clothing items such as leggings, sportswear, and swimwear.

  1. Blended Fabrics:

Blended fabrics are made by combining natural and synthetic fibers. Some examples of blended fabrics are:

  • Cotton-Polyester blend: This fabric is a combination of cotton and polyester and is used to make clothing items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets.

  • Wool-Synthetic blend: This fabric is a combination of wool and synthetic fibers such as nylon or polyester. It is used to make clothing items such as suits, jackets, and coats.

  • Silk-Cotton blend: This fabric is a combination of silk and cotton and is used to make clothing items such as dresses, blouses, and shirts.
